The matrix 4 trailer. The matrix ending. The matrix netflix. The matrix song. The first time I saw The Matrix, it was in a theater. It was good. After that, countless times on pirate videos and on DVD. Still good. But it has never given me that mystical spark that would make it a five star picture. You know how you really like some movie, but it's just missing that something, that thing you can't define? That's how it is between this movie and me.
The Matrix is no doubt the most inventive movie to hit the screens in a long while and the dark visuals and themes common to the Wachowski brothers are really at home here. It's almost a crime to say what I'm about to say, but I have began to like the sequels even more. There, I have now disgraced myself.
At least in one way this original does beat the sequels, though. There is none of that melodramatic romance between Neo and Trinity that in my opinion was the greatest fall of Reloaded and Revolutions. Plus here the idea is still fresh. Check diz!

The matrix cast. The matrix reimprinting. The beauty of sci-fi is in the details. When writing, an author has fairly limitless license to fire the reader's imagination with such amplification. A movie has not such luxury. There are time contstraints, dangers of trying to do too much. The writers of 'The Matrix' do an outstanding job of tantalizing the imagination without burdening it with superfluous information. The visual effects are unparalleled in anything I've seen recently (sorry George- there was simply too much to see in TPM) and the presence of humor rounded out this film's combustibility. In addition, the blending of drag-down, knockout, kung-foo commando is very well-done. My one reservation (and the reason why I only gave the film a 9) is the non-conformity of the romance. It was gauche and heavy-handed. The writers didn't need to dumb things down so much for the viewer. There were several intimations of what the Oracle had told Trinity, and they could have left things less implicit in the in a movie where everything else is done so well, why complain? When all is said and done, I'd equate 'The Matrix' to the 'Ender's Game' of sci-fi novels.
